“Sydney, spectacularly draped around its glorious harbour and beaches, has visual wow factor like few other cities. Scratch the surface and it only gets better.” – Lonely Planet
I will admit I wasn’t sure about Sydney. An iconic city to visit and an obvious stopping point in Australia, I was worried this major city would have only the sites but without any personality. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised!
Sydney is a very accessible city. Those coming by road (3 hours from Canberra and 10 from Melbourne) have an easy and pleasant road in via the Pacific Highway. Busses and trains arrive regularly at Central Station, however, those taking a train from Queensland will have to switch to a bus at the border as New South Wales (NSW) has different sized tracks than Queensland does.
If arriving by air the CBD is around a 20 minute drive / taxi ride (expensive) away with light traffic. The Airport Link offers frequent departures and is a quick and easy train ride into the city. Buy with an Opal card (Sydney’s public transit card) or most contactless credit cards.
Hang onto your Opal card because you’ll need an Opal card to get around during your time here.
