Coming: Grab an easy 3.5-4 hour bus ride from Ekkamai Station (Bangkok’s eastern station) to Ban Phe where you can take a short ferry over to the actual island. I recommend going from Ekkamai because Mo Chit (The main bus terminal in Bangkok) goes to Rayong (nearest large town to Koh Samet) but not to Ban Phe directly meaning you’d have to cab it from Rayong to Ban Phe. Victory Monument (another main transportation hub in Bangkok) only has vans which are not very comfortable, especially with luggage.
Price- Around ฿200 THB ($6.11USD) for the bus and ฿70 THB ($2.14) for a one way ferry. (Better to just buy each way separately)
Sleeping: Nice Beach Hotel- I decided to stay off the island to save a little money and took the ferry in for the day. Really nice rooms, a pool and located right across the street from a public beach. Not a ton of options for food nearby but a few restaurants and bars. Wouldn’t recommend it to solo travelers and staying on the island is probably a bit better. Search hostels on the island HERE.
Eating: There are plenty of restaurants on the island, all offering similar things, all a bit pricey.
Doing: Relax at the beach or by a pool, head out on a boat to snorkel and see more of the island
Beach- The beaches are way more beautiful from Koh Samet than Rayong. The water is clear, beautiful and refreshing! Hang out on the beach or by the pool and just relax.
There are tours to be had where you can circle the island and snorkel and enjoy an afternoon on the water.
Staying: A few days of relaxation is perfect.
Going: Take the ferry back to the mainland and head back to Bangkok where you can easily get anywhere with bus, plane or train.
